The Carousel’s exterior lights (under the rounding boards, on the centre column panels) have not functioned for approximately 40 years. The electric motor, while it continues to function, is not as energy efficient as modern motors. It also does not have the required computerized electrical controls necessary to ensure the appropriate and safe operation of the Carousel. The electric motor will be replaced by a soft start version with the relevant electronic control system.
The wiring and lights will be re-established with modern LED-type fixtures and bulbs that are complementary to the colour scheme of the Carousel.
Mahon Electric has agreed to do the electrical upgrades in lieu of paying to adopt a horse.
